Blogging, Jillian Walkus, Sarah Soltau-Heller September 22, 2011Today Jillian’s English/English First Peoples 10 class and my Kindergarten/Grade 1 Class collaborated to help K/1′s write their first blog posts. Unfortunately we had some tech problems but we managed.
It is so interesting to see the differences in the two imovies Jillian and I created.

Absolutely inspiring videos ladies! What struck me as I watched was the leadership role for the grade 10 students. This interaction allowed them to share their expertise in an area; to actually be the teacher, the listener, the friend and particularly the expert. To be able to practice this is a safe and comfortable environment is also an opportunity to gain confidence. I look forward to more of your posts.

Wow! What a fantastic experience for both groups of students. Are you planning to have the students work together more throughout the year? I would love to be able to do something like that.

We are hoping to try to do this at least once a month. Both groups loved it – it truly was a magical experience to see these students being leaders, teachers, and learners together.

What a fantastic day for the learners, teachers included! I had the opportunity to be around the Grade 10 students as they were getting ready to leave and I was moved beyond words to hear the sense of pride, purpose, accomplishment, and dignity in their reactions to this experience.
Are the grade 10 students going to document their thoughts on being teachers and leaders?

I am most impressed by everything I have seen on Collaboration Without Boundaries, but am particularly charmed and moved by the reading buddies video. Everyone is so obviously engaged and interested, and the older kids seem actively supportive and even protective. This is truly inspirational.
